A Patchwork of People and Time
in a life of joyful moments
i recall those we shared now
your face appears to me at last,
all the moments we shared somehow
i ponder too the great catalogue
of all the interesting souls
those like you who came my way
a few left the biggest holes
perhaps enough of time has passed
to stop and start to measure
accomplishments
and the lifelong work we traded
in the end, for safety’s treasure
now at last i count them up
and wonder where they went
those who’ve come and gone at last
both hell and heaven sent
i wish the moments lasted longer
and i came to know you well
but time and tide were against us
in a life ‘tween storm and swell
my life is quieter, contemplative
with each person who now passes
i realize the moments were all jewels:
the memories one amasses
my life is made of all those times
a patchwork of people and time
i remember you now once again
forever part of mine
