never thought we’d ever say
thoughts and prayers had become cliché
a great country watches
even its young people die
from a lack of reasonable measures
and a congress gone awry
so-called leader equivocate
dancing around as it gets late
so many lost now, whole communities vexed
a country in fear cries out, “who’s next?”
