BrooksLooks @ Final Injection

an injured leg
an ominous break
then the inevitable steps
a vet must take

adrenaline rising
with anguish and stress
the only relief
in a wrangler’s caress

falling down
with wild, uncertain eyes
a final injection
until, a heartbeat dies

broken hearts
after a quieted storm
tears fall down
on a neck still warm

we’ll miss his gifts
the love shared with all
new hoofbeats sound on heaven’s plain
here a saddle unused, an empty stall

the herd diminished
when Frino dies
a ranch sanctified
by tears from a wrangler’s eyes
